Status Update – Community Broadband Meeting Tonight at 6:00 PM

Yesterday’s regional fiber outage impacted several internet providers in Los Alamos, including LAnet. Service has been fully restored, and our network is operating normally.

To provide clarity and answer questions, we will be hosting a community Zoom update tonight at 6:00 PM. During this meeting, we will review what happened during the outage and share details on the steps being taken to improve broadband redundancy, capacity, and reliability across Los Alamos.

We will also be joined by representatives from:

  • Los Alamos County – Jerry Smith
  • REDINet – Jerrold Baca

All LAnet clients and Los Alamos residents are welcome to attend.

✅ Network Update – Service Restored (2:57 AM)

Good news! The Lumen fiber connection was restored around 2:57 AM, and all LAnet services are now back to normal.

Our systems have reconnected to the main fiber network, and connectivity across Los Alamos has stabilized. We’ll continue monitoring closely throughout the day to ensure everything remains steady.

There is no new information yet from Lumen regarding the fiber cut affecting our main connection.

At this time, we are running on a limited Starlink backup, which is keeping part of our network online.

We don’t know how long this situation will continue, but if service is not restored by tomorrow, we will begin prioritizing business connections to maintain essential operations in the community.

Our team is also purchasing and activating additional Starlink systems to help load-balance and strengthen the backup so more areas can stay connected.

Please be patient as we work through this — we’re doing everything possible to build redundancy across multiple locations so you don’t have to.

Unfortunately, our backup connection is being heavily used. We’re unable to activate backup service in all areas right now. To keep essential services online, we’re prioritizing businesses and critical locations until Lumen restores the main fiber.

Please use internet only for essential needs (email, messaging, work apps).

No streaming (Netflix, YouTube), gaming, or large downloads so we can preserve capacity for those who need it most.
